Auction site offers super discount bargains

July 26th, 2010

QuiBids is a new kind of auction website. It’s less like a garage sale with inexpensive but perhaps unique, unpredictable, one of a kind items, such as eBay. QuiBids is different – it might have just what you need such as a new camera or gift cards that you need for your event or could use as thank you gift wedding items. Maybe even a laptop to take on your honeymoon!

There is a flat cost to bidding, which is $.60, but the deals can be phenomenal. It has more conventional items, but perhaps more just what you are looking for, at a deep discount price.

Cricket & Black Magic have Facebook page

July 12th, 2010

We had lots of fun with the Cricket & Black Magic Salem Dog Wedding. But now that they are officially married and have honeymooned, they have earned a FaceBook page of their own. We will be following them here at Salem Design under our Creative Design link (keeping up with the adventures of these dogs keeps us creative), and we will follow their lives on Facebook “Cricket & Black Magic” as well.

As usual, we will have links to their YouTube location when we do videos of the couple. The new Facebook page:

Cricket & Black Magic – The Salem Dog Wedding Video

July 8th, 2010

Thanks for all the help, talent, and effort that so many people contributed to make the Cricket & Black Magic Salem Dog Wedding a success. We are glad to have the dogs officially married, but we are also so pleased about how the event came out. As we mentioned in our “Commitment” comments, the wedding was about commitment – to our animal friends, our families, our community, and our environment.

Thanks to everyone, and especially Jim Merchant of Pirates Lane Video, the resulting video expresses all the good spirited fun and inclusive attitude that our community of Salem, MA, likes to extend to residents and visitors alike.

The best of good wishes to every couple planning their event, and may you have as good a time at it as we did.

Cricket & Black Magic are now a married couple, but it’s just the beginning. Their lives will go on, and we will be following their adventures on another Salem Design blog – Salem Design/Creative, where we follow our more creative and imaginative projects. We anticipate creating a Cricket & Black Magic Facebook page for them as well.

What should the groom wear?

July 3rd, 2010

The spectrum of wedding event styles – from formal, to casual, to DIY – provides a lot of latitude in dressing for the occasion. The answer to “what should the groom wear?” lies in courtesy. The groom should look appropriately matched to what his bride is wearing and the wedding style. This means color, the elements of the wedding decor, and the degree of formality.

This shouldn’t require a lot of expense, just good thinking and thoughtful choice. Renting a tux isn’t that expensive for a formal wedding, and a nice suit would do for something more casual. But the bride will want to look her best, and even for more informal or DIY event, she’ll want her man looking respectable, out of respect for her.

Another point of courtesy to be distinguishable from the groomsmen. A wedding brings together two sets of families, and two sets of friends. Even if the couple has invited mostly people who know each other, their are bound to be people who may be meeting the groom (or bride) for the first time. They shouldn’t have to guess who the groom is!

And even if it’s a small wedding where everyone is familiar, there will no doubt be pictures. Wouldn’t it be nice if those in the future, like your children maybe, can easily tell who dad is in those pictures?

Cricket & Black Magic – The Honeymoon

July 2nd, 2010

It was a wonderful wedding, and there was joy and good fun right through the honeymoon at the Hawthorne Hotel. The following are pictures of the limousine ride to the hotel, the wedding cake which had been brought to the lobby of the hotel, the unpacking of the wedding couples’ suitcase (with matching blue with roses pajamas), the wedding attire hung neatly in the closet, room service, and finally sleep after the long day. The next day it was a trip for lobster rolls at Farnham’s Famous Clams in Ipswhich.

So we’re posting these pictures, and there will be one more Dog Wedding entry when we have the video of the wedding completed. Then the happy couple will be moving to a new destination, their own FaceBook page, and the Salem Design/Creative page. We hope you’ve had as much fun following this wedding as we did producing it. The dogs surely had a wonderful time.

Cricket & Black Magic – dog wedding, animals at your wedding or event

July 1st, 2010

We have a wonderful link to share that is a nice write up, photos, and video of the Salem Dog Wedding Honeymoon at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem. Now that we’ve done this “fanciful” event, we’re seeing a lot of the meaningful messages we wanted to imply by doing it come through.

First, it was more than just the dogs. It really was a story about commitment, not just to our animal friends, but also to our families, our friends, and our community. We are working on the final video this week that will include an extensive list of credits. All are terrific friends, town officials, and businesses who helped us put this together.

It was also about the give and take of commitment that a wedding ceremony symbolizes. Cricket, our therapy dog, has given so much to our community. We were delighted that the ladies of Brookhouse elder housing could attend. And our rescue Black Magic thoroughly enjoyed his day – it was so different from before he came to live with us here in Salem. This tolerant city welcomes and rehabilitates body, mind and soul. We hope our event showed that.

We were happy to be told that the other “real person” bride that was also at the Hawthorne when we arrived, was charmed and intrigued by our dog wedding & honeymoon, so she had her photographer takes a few pictures of our dog couple to include in her own wedding album. Our best wishes to that couple, and we hope you enjoy seeing a bit of our joyful event when you look through the pictures of your own.

We worked two months on our ‘dog wedding’, including costume design, venue, ceremony, music, sound, video, and the enjoyment and safety of our attendees, both human and canine. We have a bit of experience in film making, and know resources that we could highly recommend for your event. In particular, we would like to thank Jim Merchant of Pirates Lane Video (pirateslane.com), and Mick Bramante of Daddy’s Junky Music (www.daddys.com). They were immeasurably helpful in producing our event, and a final video, that we could produce without copyright infringement. All the little things, the suggestions, helped a lot.

As far as animal management, I have experience through the auspicies of Salem Design, working on a Nova television film, through personal projects, and with Therapy Dogs International. I am extremely proud of all the footage that was produced, and loved the variety of creatures I have worked with in presentations and in film. To the dog trainers, dog walkers, dog businesses, and dog friendly businesses I have worked with, I cannot express my gratitude enough.

If you have questions about including an animal friend in your event, we’d be glad to give you any advice based on our experiences.

This is a write up on the Hawthorne Hotel blog. Our video of the wedding ceremony will be out soon.

Celebrities Cricket & Black Magic honeymoon at the Hawthorne

June 27th, 2010

Cricket & Black Magic, Celebrity Schipperkes, spent their honeymoon at the dog friendly Hawthorne Hotel in Salem, MA. They enjoyed at grand welcome, doggy menu room service, and complimentary toys & treats. They had a terrific time.

We will be posting a video of the Wedding Ceremony of Cricket & Black Magic sometime later this week. After they have settled down from their fabulous wedding day, they hope to have a few days to rest and get back to being just dogs for awhile. However, we will continue to follow their lives and exploits on Salem Design, under another blog, “Creative Design.”

For now, here’s the honeymoon clip-

Locavore Wedding Food

Localvore Wedding Food

Locally grown, locally prepared food for your wedding guests

What’s the latest in food for weddings? Localvore. That is, people who buy local food, want to know how it’s grown and produced, and want to bring it to their table in the most healthy, wholesome way possible. And it’s not just for families any more, as this Shelburne, VT, family demonstrates. It’s for special occasions too, including your wedding.

Where we have grown used to the choice of Chicken, Fish, or Beef – or vegetarian (pasta), a growing trend is to provide your guests with healthy, wholesome food that supports local sustainable agriculture. Definitely a nice way to pamper your guests by providing them with a meal they can feel really good about as they enjoy it.
